Now you know how to reference a print book, let’s look at creating a reference for an e-book. Referencing an e-book from a library database is identical to referencing a print book, there is no need to include a URL or retrieval statement. For an e-book, there are a number of ways to obtain the key information you require to create a reference.   Bibliographic references are double-spaced and indented half an inch after the first line. Only the title of the reference work is in italics. The editor’s initials precede the family name. Use "sentence-style" capitalization. Note: for major reference works with a large editorial board, list the name of the lead editor, followed by et : Alanna Ross.

Examples of preparing reference citations and the list of works cited are taken from the MLA Handbook, 8th Edition (available in reference shelves of the Shapiro Undergraduate Library and the Hatcher Graduate Library [where one copy is always held on reserve at the circulation desk], call number LB G53 ).. Alphabetize entries in the list of works cited by the author’s last : Amanda Peters. The Radford University Marketing Department has adopted the citation style established by the American Psychological Association (APA) for documenting sources used in papers assigned by departmental faculty. APA style requires both in‐text citations and a reference list. For every in‐text citation, there should be a full citation in the reference list and vice versa.

The information is intended to be found quickly when needed. Reference works are usually referred to for particular pieces of information, rather than read beginning to end.

The writing style used in these works is informative; the authors avoid use of the first person, and emphasize facts.

Library classification of a piece of work consists of two steps. Firstly, the subject or topic of the material is ascertained. Next, a call number (essentially a book's address) based on the classification system in use at the particular library will be assigned to the work using the notation of the system.
